5 Essential Shinedown Tracks

Having played Donington four times, you could say Shinedown are something of a Download favourite.

What’s more, they’ve had more number ones on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Chart than ANY other band. We’ve pulled the best together for their Top 5 Essential Tracks ahead of their Download 2022 Main Stage set!

‘Sound Of Madness’

The title track from Shinedown’s most successful album (it’s sold over 2m copies!) has racked up over 140million plays on Spotify and 60million views on YouTube. We challenge you not to headbang when that riff kicks in. It’s definitely the “shotgun blast kick in the ass” we need on a Monday morning.

‘Cut The Cord’

Wrestling fans: if you think you’ve heard ‘Cut The Cord’ before, it might be because it was the theme for the famous WWE Hell In A Cell fight between The Undertaker and Brock Lesnar back in 2015. Frontman Brent Smith described the track as “the statement to the world that you will not give up, you will not give in, and you refuse to fail”. Amen \m/

‘SAVE ME’

‘Save Me’, the lead single from Shinedown’s second album ‘Us And Them’, marked their first ever number one. Brent was just 16 when the song was demoed, and when it was released to radio in August 2005, he admitted that four of the songs for the album were still yet to be written. Somehow, the band managed to pull the album together in time for an October 2005 release.

‘Second Chance’

Brent told a packed crowd at Missouri’s Pointfest that ‘Second Chance’ was about “the moment that you wake up and you decide you want to go for every single dream you ever want”. You may have heard it on Guitar Hero, Rock Band, WWE… this song was everywhere in 2008. And with over 150million plays on Spotify, it’s definitely Shinedown’s biggest track to date.

‘Monsters’

‘Monsters’, taken from the band’s latest album ‘Attention Attention’, proved they haven’t lost their ability to write a number one track. Inspired by Brent’s battles with substance abuse, critics said it was a return to the classic Shinedown sound. With their much awaited seventh album slated to drop in early 2022, we can’t wait to see what they do next.
