5 Essential The Pretty Reckless Tracks

With the release of their much anticipated fifth album ‘Death By Rock And Roll’ this year, we can’t wait to welcome The Pretty Reckless back to Download in 2022!

If you’ve been living under a rock and haven’t checked them out yet, here’s their top 5 Essential Tracks.

‘Make Me Wanna Die’

The band’s first single ‘Make Me Wanna Die’ was written when vocalist Taylor Momsen was just 16 years old. She described it as “a tragic love song. It’s Romeo and Juliet—can’t live without your lover so you die.” ‘Make Me Wanna Die’ was a smash success, reaching number 1 on the UK Rock and Metal chart.

‘Take Me Down’

The lead single from the band’s third album ‘Who You Selling For’, ‘Take Me Down’ tells the story of a musician who sells her soul to the devil in exchange for fame and fortune. Sounds pretty metal, but the track actually has a very blues-y, Southern rock feel.

‘MESSED UP WORLD’

Taken from their second album ‘Going To Hell’, ‘Messed Up World’ remains a mainstay in The Pretty Reckless’s setlist. Originally written on an acoustic guitar, it’s now all tambourines and hard rock grooves. Taylor directed the video, which she described as “very sarcastic – we’ve never really put sarcasm in our videos before so it’s a different treatment.”

‘Death By Rock And Roll’

We waited FIVE YEARS for The Pretty Reckless’s fifth album, and the title track didn’t disappoint. ‘Death By Rock And Roll’ was written as a tribute to their late producer Kato Khandwala, who tragically passed away in 2018, and became the group’s fifth number one single. Play this at our funeral.

‘Heaven Knows’

‘Heaven Knows’ is an anthem for all the misfits. With that infectious hook and foot stomping beat reminiscent of Queen’s ‘We Will Rock You’, you just know it’ll have the whole of Donington singing along. All together now: “Jimmy’s in the back with a pocket of high…”
