Comics That Rock

Looking for some new reading material?

Everyone knows Batman and Spiderman, Marvel and DC, right? But we bet ya didn’t know how many comics that ROCK are out there. Some of your fave bands have penned – or even starred in – their own graphic novels over the years. Download Dog keeps insisting he should have his own as well.

Scroll below to find offerings from the likes of KISS, Iron Maiden, Black Veil Brides, Skillet and Ice Nine Kills.

KISS

KISS have starred in countless comics over the years, collaborating with everyone from Marvel to Archie. Die hard KISS Army members will surely have a copy of the hardcover KISS Kompendium, which features several of their comic series as well as commentary from Gene and Paul.

And the band’s comic reign shows no signs of slowing down just yet! Their latest comic ‘Phantom Obsession’ was released in August. Ironically, Gene has stated that he’s the only member of the band who reads comics.

BLack Veil Brides

Earlier this year, Black Veil Brides launched their first ever comic series ‘The Phantom Tomorrow’. Though this isn’t the first time frontman Andy Biersack has turned his hand to graphic novels – he authored ‘The Ghost Of Ohio’, a tie-in to his solo album of the same name.

‘The Phantom Tomorrow’ is a six issue series that follows the story of Blackbird, “a mysterious figure caught between life and death”.

Iron Maiden

Iron Maiden‘s ‘Legacy Of The Beast’ comic series debuted in 2017, and is based on the band’s hit mobile game. Starring their iconic mascot Eddie, the series follow him across the many worlds of Maiden’s albums: “from the ancient sands of Powerslave to the far future of the Final Frontier”. Produced by the aptly named Heavy Metal Comics, there’s five issues to sink your teeth into.

Skillet

Skillet frontman John Cooper penned graphic novel ‘Eden’ back in 2019. It’s an action-packed romp through a post-apocalytic universe, and sci-fi nerds will definitely want to check it out, as will Skillet fans – JC has said it’s like a book version of their music. And if you love it, you’re in luck – the sequel dropped last year.
