Download is go, go GO! There’s just one day before the music begins, but weeks of preparation have gone into getting the largest single site festival in the UK this summer ready for #DL2018.
Hundreds of electricians, stage crews, security staff, set dressers, lighting techies and riggers, cute but hard working sniffer dogs and traffic marshalls have been working hard to get the site ready for you. Metres of cables have been laid, backstage riders have been stocked, the screens and those all-important totem poles either side have been erected and it’s starting to look a lot like Download 2018.
Here are the Main Stage struts awaiting the roof last week:
This week the tents and big tops have been going up ready to become home to the biggest bands and biggest rockers in the world. Each one takes an impressive 2 days, 15 handlers and a cherry picker (on top) to construct.
Load in for the Main Stage began yesterday – so that’s all of the sound desks and speakers, electrics, mics, roadies, back lines and flight cases. All we need now is…the bands!
The seven bars are all in and the beer is on order ready for your arrival. Bar staff will be queuing up tomorrow to get to work pouring those nice cold beers for you to sup whilst watching your favourite bands.
Viewing platforms for our Access patrons are in across all stages. The Co-op supermarket is newly stocked and ready to go for you to get those last minute essentials- The Dog has already been for his lunch.
The RIP area is looking cosy! The Download Dog was spotted there after his lunch having a kip – we’ll be moving him on soon.
Dressing rooms are having the final touches put in – black sofas, black towels and lots of snacks. The riders are all in and none have yet topped the kilogram of earthworms we politely declined last year!
The only thing left is for the site crew to put up the flags as a finishing touch.
Safe travels Downloaders!! \m/
