You probably know by now that Simple Creatures are made up of two pop punk LEGENDS – Mark Hoppus of blink-182 and Alex Gaskarth of All Time Low.
You probably also know by now that they’re your Saturday headliners on the Avalanche Stage hosted by Kerrang! Radio at Download 2019 in a UK festival EXCLUSIVE.
But if your knowledge ends there, fear not. We’ve rounded up Everything You Need To Know About Simple Creatures.
their new ep is coming very soon
Six song EP ‘Strange Love’ is set to arrive on 29th March and Mark has declared it’ll be: “the first glimpse into the Simple Creatures universe”.
So far, we’ve already heard their earworm of a debut single ‘Drug’ written by Mark and Alex in collaboration with producer Zakk Cervini. The ridiculously catchy title track ‘Strange Love’ (no, not the Depeche Mode banger) dropped last week along with a pretty trippy video. Check it out below.
it’s a dream come true for alex
In an interview with the Metro, Alex Gaskarth admitted he’d always been a die hard blink fan. “It’s kind of a surreal moment to have it come full circle and be making music with a guy that kind of inspired me to start playing in a band,” he said. “Fortunately, I met Mark years ago, so I kind of got to get my hardcore fanboy phase out of the way!”.
Talk about living the dream!

it’s more than just another side project
“I got to a really dark place and couldn’t find my way out of it,” Mark told Kerrang!. “I didn’t have a fix on it until my wife and manager both said, ‘you need to make some music. Go and make something.’ I had to do it to save my own life, I guess”.
Legit so excited for Download fest with @simplecreatures — first official gig on the books. It’s gonna be wild and weird and I’m so stoked to get this thing in front of you!!— Alexander William Gaskarth (@AlexGaskarth) February 25, 2019
expect the unexpected
Although Simple Creatures is made up of the same genius minds that brought you ‘All The Small Things’ and ‘Weightless’, don’t expect the new EP to sound like either band.
Speaking to Kerrang! Alex explained: “we adopted a mentality of ‘alright, if we’re going together, let’s not do anything that sounds like our two bands.'”
In the same interview Mark described the duo’s sound as “ratty guitars, electronics, programmed drums” and said, “when people hear that it’s Mark from blink-182 and Alex from All Time Low, they’re going to think that it’s a poppy, pop-punk guitar band. I hope they’re as happily surprised as we are”.
