Riff Radar – Yours Truly

If you like immense soaring choruses, power chords more beefy than the Download Dog’s dog treats and lyrics as EMOtional as Gerard Way’s tears, you are going to love Australian pop punk band Yours Truly.

In Riff Radar we fill you in on everything you need to know about the up and coming Aussie quartet and why they’ll get you bouncing hard to their pop punk beats at Download 2019.

The line up…

Mikaila Delgado (vocals), Teddie Winder-Haron (guitar), Lachlan Cronin (guitar), Bradley Cronon  (drums).

Sounds like…

Dream State moshing out with WSTR at a Paramore show with State Champs side of stage.

Background…

Yours Truly’s third single ‘Circles’ is more buff than WWE NXT UK champion Pete Dune, as it slams you with the band’s heaviest riffs so far, and has a chorus so catchy you’ll be singing it at your cat. It’s an exciting landmark in the band’s burgeoning career that started just three years ago.

The Sydney band formed in 2016 and started their tentative steps to pop punk greatness by relentlessly touring their butts off around eastern Australia. In 2017 with a loyal fanbase already at their side the band self-released their debut EP, Too Late For Apologies. From ‘woah oh ohs’ of opening track and single ‘Winter’, the EP is a masterclass in how you do loud-quiet-loud, hook-ladened pop punk with a monster load of energy.

Last year the band kept the momentum going with the release of their second single ‘High Hopes’. Speaking to SCENEzine, singer and lyricist Mikaila Delgado said the track was about, “someone who I thought had believed in me but turned out to let me down and sold out on me”. It’s the perfect track for when you’ve been wronged, as Michaela’s effortlessly strong vocals surge above the kinetic chords and pounding beats to show she’s better off without them.

The band are set to follow up their latest single ‘Circles’ with their upcoming sophomore EP Afterglow and, of course, their debut appearance at Download 2019.

The critics say…

Single ‘High Hopes’ is their best offering to date, with the suspense in the verse paying off with a massive chorus” – Punktastic

Dialing the pop up to 11 and ensuring a healthy dose of down-tuned guitar action isn’t forgotten” – Don’t Bore Us

The fans say…

Sick fact…

Yours Truly share their name with Ariana Grande’s debut album, but unlike the pop star we won’t be saying ‘Thank U, Next’ to these Aussies.  They’re also so pop punk that they have ‘pop punk’ in their Facebook url.

Pit type…

Power slides and bouncy times.

At Download most likely to…

Slay you with power punk pop anthems that are more mighty than the Download big wheel.
