But, as we all know, it’s not always just about the headliners; it’s also the bands across other stages that have the ability to give us a weekend we’ll never – ever – forget. One of those bands this year is garage punk band The Hives.
The quintessential Swedish punk rock outfit take awesomeness to a whole new level with their loud, brash, groovy and simply wild sound.
Formed in 1993 and then rising to prominence in the 2000’s, the band featuring frontman Pelle Almqvist, guitarists Niklas Almqvist and Mikael Karlsson, bassist Johan Gustafsson and drummer Christian Grahn are a force of freaky nature – and we love it.
So, to get you excited for the massive nights ahead, here are our favourite party tunes from The Hives. Feel free to turn these up to 11 – they sound even better that way.
Counting down from 5, here we go…
5. ‘Abra Cadaver’
If you thought we weren’t going to kick start this list with a song to get you moving, you were wrong. It might only be 1 minute 39 seconds long, but this is less than 2 minutes of pure, unfiltered rock and roll.
4. ‘Try It Again’
“Oh you get up, you get down and you try it again!”
3. ‘Walk Idiot Walk’
The riff in this will etch itself into your brain after just one listen. This is guaranteed to be a great toe-tappin’, head-nodding and butt-wiggling tune when they take to the stage at this year’s Download.
2. ‘Hate To Say I Told You So’
This is some downright tasty raw punk’n’roll, deploying stripped-down sliding power chords and vocals that are filled with the sense of being young and scattered.
1. ‘Main Offender’
‘Main Offender’ roars like a runaway punk train. Is it smug? Yes. Is it retro? Yes. Should it be number one on this list? 100% yes.
